Plaza Arabic has taken many steps since its launch in 2006 and now contains more local content than ever before. Many consider Plaza as one of the most elegant Arabic scripted titles in the world. Creating a magazine takes craftsmanship in itself and Plaza is not just a cut, copy and paste magazine. All articles and photographs are of our own creation. Our publishing house emphasizes on the importance of unique and distinguished pieces which further reflects on our true passion for each issue. Even with the best photographers and some of the best writers in the world, the formation of a magazine is never just about its design and content. A magazine thrives on its marketing, its distribution and circulation, events, its brand image and last but certainly not least its suitable advertisers.

The Arabic Plaza is exceptional in many ways, especially in terms of its readers. A small number of important readers can simultaneously turn out to be big spenders and this is inevitably extremely important to our advertisers. These readers demand a magazine with the right content, design and exclusivity.

In time for 2010/2011 we have added new members to our team, increased our distribution and awareness, hosted more events, created more PR campaigns, developed more aggressive marketing channels and even launched a new iPhone application. We are also launching new titles on the market; one of them being a highly demanded English edition of Arabic Plaza as thorough market research and feedback has inferred.

Plaza Arabic is increasing its activities at GCC airports. Since April, the renowned Emirates Terminal 3 of Dubai International airport has been housing 4 large advertisements of Plaza Arabic Magazine throughout its arrivals walkway, reaching 100% of arrivals. We started our regional airport advertisements at the arrivals tunnel of Dubai airport’s Terminal 1 last year. Plaza has commercial signs at many airports worldwide, including several airports which house up to 12 large signs with annual contracts.

Part of our forthcoming strategy in 2010 has been to increase our customer base, advertisers and awareness in Qatar. We have developed our market positioning and existence in the Qatari market in terms of distribution, collation of VIP clients and of course, media contacts. We now have a strong relationship with the Grand Hyatt Doha Hotel, a prominent hotel destination in the heart of Doha. The Grand Hyatt is conveniently located on the shoreline of the new west bay lagoon district, minutes away from the city financial and commercial centre. The hotel has beautiful Persian Gulf facing suites and villas where our partnership has entitled Plaza Arabic to be present in all the suites, villas, lounges and restaurants in the hotel. Plaza is continuing to work actively in all countries in the GCC region, Oman being one of them. We were more than proud to show one of the royal families’ private homes in our autumn issue in 2009. One of the world’s best photographers flew into Oman especially to photograph this unique house as it was the first time their house was going to be shown to the public. The beautiful Six Senses Zighy Bay Hotel is located in Oman and Plaza is honoured to present them as a new partner. Every room at the hotel now has a copy of the Arabic issue of Plaza Magazine. Plaza is active in driving sales at newsstands. It’s vital that the kiosks where Plaza advertises are optimally placed and are seen by many people - and the right people. In Dubai, Proof Woody kiosks are the perfect match for Plaza’s strategy and direction. We are therefore proud to announce that we have signed a long term contract with them which includes sales of the magazine as well as large Plaza signs of the latest issues which are up and running at 8 distinct locations around Dubai. These locations include kiosks outside the CNN building, the street running through Dubai Media city outside our Plaza office, DIFC, Knowledge Village and Festival City.

As we are continuing to grow here in the Middle East we are glad to welcome new members of staff to our Dubai office in Dubai Media City. Eia Malik has been brought up in Dubai and has completed her education here. She now handles PR and events planning. She is also responsible for office management and distribution of Plaza Arabic. Nyma Peracha, our new sales and marketing executive was born and brought up in London, UK and has lived in Dubai for the past couple of years. She is now handling several of Plaza’s biggest accounts. Cecilia Braidy is our Brand Manager and has lived in Dubai for more than 10 years now. She has been a large participant in Plaza’s success and recognition for the past 2 years. Cecilia also handles some of Plaza’s key accounts. Rosette Hirsch has grown up in Sweden but is of Lebanese origin and is fluent in Arabic. She is working mostly with International clients worldwide and has been handling the most important clients of Arabic Plaza for the past couple of years. Since 2009, Amir Ghaffarpour has been the Regional Director for the Middle Eastern region in Dubai. He is originally from Iran but was brought up in the US and Sweden. Amir has lived in Dubai for several years and came to Plaza from a position where he had a strong background of business development, PR and Marketing experience from companies such as Al Habtoor Trading. Since 2009, Anders Modig has been the editor-in-chief of Plaza Arabic. He is on a constant look-out for the best architects and designers in the GCC and around the world. When not in Dubai, he is more than likely to be found in Switzerland, as he is also the editor-in-chief of Plaza Watch.

In the months of January, March and April, viewers could see Plaza’s 35 second commercial all over the Middle East. It has been a part of our worldwide campaign with CNN which has been in partnership with Plaza since 1999. Over 400,000 Euros spent on a single advertising campaign reflects on the strong status of Plaza and that we view advertising as an important tool and path for success.

The Raffles Hotel is one of the most luxurious and well-respected hotels in Dubai, located at the heart of the renowned Wafi City. We are proud to announce that The Raffles has had the Arabic Plaza in all of its rooms since last year. This hotel suited Plaza Arabic perfectly as The Raffles is known to have an abundance of Arabic speaking guests visiting Dubai on a regular basis from the neighboring Gulf countries in the GCC region. One of our main missions is to show the Arabic Plaza to new readers and guests from other Khaleeji countries. When the guests return to their home countries we hope that they will find their copies of Plaza Arabic in their local stores in Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain and continue to read our magazine and become one of our many loyal customers!

Baselworld is the biggest watch and jewellery fair in the world. It’s held in Basel, Switzerland and Plaza Arabic has been one of the official partners since its launch in 2006. Other titles in the Plaza Group have been partners with the renowned fair for many years running. During the fair, visitors could find their own copy inside the main fair area. Plaza had also partnered with the most important hotels just outside the fair. During this week there were no hotel rooms available within a 160 km radius of the fair; making Ramada Plaza and Swisshotel Plaza the two most attractive addresses. Every room had exclusively ONLY Plaza Magazine UK/Europe, Plaza Germany and Plaza Watch. In selected rooms with GCC visitors, the Arabic Plaza was also placed.

Plaza is considered by many as one of the magazines that has the best watch photography in the world by far. SIHH is globally recognized as the most important watch fair of the year. The Richemont Group holds the event coupled with some other brands. At SIHH, brands like Cartier, Van Cleef, Dunhill, Panerai, Vacheron Constantin, Audemars Piguet, Richard Mille etc. exhibit their novelties. It’s an invitation-only event held in January and attracts the most important people in the business. Plaza Magazine and Plaza Watch were proud to present 25 large photographs at the exit which of course every visitor had to pass on their way out. Together with SIHH there was a catalogue created where the photographs were presented. Plaza Arabic is also one of the official partners of the fair and visitors could get the latest issue on-site.

We continue our corporation with the exclusive restaurant and lounge – Zuma, where we’ve held two consecutive events for the launch of our 01 and 02 Plaza Arabic issues of 2010. At the venue in January we began the New Year with the launch of our 01 issue where 300 of our guests, clients and friends enjoyed complimentary canapés and cocktails along with their own copies of the new Plaza edition. Also a special thanks to our sponsors of the evening: Calvin Klein, The One and Voss water that made our Plaza goodie bags possible.

Our Second event was held in April where we show-cased our 02 issue to our VIP guests. The event was a huge success and our Regional Director held a speech inaugurating our new issue. Our partner, Aigner held a lovely exhibition launching their new Men’s accessories line alongside our second partner of the evening: Villa Moda, who held a mini fashion show entertaining our fashionable guests.

Plaza Arabic is a partner of the exclusive Elysiants Club – a worldwide invitation-only online membership club. We found this to be the perfect opportunity to team up and celebrate Valentine’s Day in style. Cavalli club is one of the classiest clubs in Milan, so therefore success in Dubai was a given. More than 800 guests enjoyed signature drinks and good food whilst indulging in the latest issue of Plaza, with its award winning photography.

Sometimes small activities are important to reach new readers. At the annual Career Fair, which was held in March at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre, we saw a window of opportunity to set up an exhibition stand of our own to inform and hand out the Plaza Arabic Magazine to the aspiring younger local community. This was a part of our strategy to increase awareness within the local community ranging from the ages of 20-30, and more than 2,000 copies were handed out at the fair to young local men and women. There is strong demand among the new generation to read about exactly what Plaza is writing about. Design, Fashion and interior are very relevant in Dubai’s culture as it’s the retail hub of the Middle East and therefore Plaza can be used as an important tool for them. Plaza is determined to educate Arab readers about areas that Plaza cares about, from local to worldwide news and updates.

Plaza Publishing is proud to announce that the greatest entertainment chain, Virgin Megastores has decided to sell the Arabic Plaza Magazine at its stores in the GCC region. From now on, readers can buy the latest issue at Virgin stores in UAE and Qatar to begin with. All Virgin stores will run our Plaza TV commercial on the TV screens in all of the respective stores – A great way to do indoor advertising for Plaza Arabic. We will also be included in the Virgin Megastores Newsletter to a database of over 100,000 and Facebook fan group of 110,000. Another great way for us increase awareness within the younger target group.

Plaza is the largest shareholder of the communications agency Heartbeats International, which handles clients such as AXE, Rolex, Mistubishi and Design Hotels. CEO Jakob Lusensky has just released his new book ‘Sounds like Branding’. He has additionally recently been invited to the very important Tedx Tokyo. Heartbeats is also the company who has developed the new iPhone app for Plaza Magazine. They also developed another cool app for the company Peak Performance (who has one of their flagship stores in Mall of the Emirates).

It's sold together with Plaza Magazine in Scandinavia during the first year, so the circulation is huge from the start. With the best interior decoration photographers in the world, this is a new type of interior magazine.

Respected food magazine Gourmet was founded in 1980 in Sweden. It’s the leading food magazine in Scandinavia and has over 100,000 readers every month. Since 2006, Plaza Publishing has been the majority shareholder. In 2008, Plaza bought more shares in the company and at present holds more than 90%.
